DANONE INDONESIA LAUNCHES 2019-2020 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT, AFFIRMING ITS COMMITMENT TO SUPPORT THE GOVERNMENT'S SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AGENDA (SDGS)

  • Danone-Indonesia consistently launches its Sustainability Report biannually as part of the company's commitment to implementing sustainable business practices as well as good corporate governance.
  • Danone Indonesia, through Danone Waters and Danone Specialized Nutrition Indonesia, continues to develop various sustainability initiatives to support the Government of Indonesia to achieve the country’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Jakarta, 20 December 2021 – Danone Indonesia today launched the 2019-2020 Sustainability Report as a testament of the company's commitment in building a balanced and sustainable business. Danone in Indonesia through its two business lines; Danone Waters (Danone-AQUA) which focuses on services related to water and the importance of healthy hydration, and Danone Specialized Nutrition (Danone SN) Indonesia which includes nutritional products for mothers and children to support and nurture healthier future Indonesian generation. In its business operations, Danone Indonesia believes that every good deed will increase the company's growth while preserving and maintaining the country’s sustainability.

In line with Danone's vision globally, Danone Indonesia is committed to continuing to build various sustainability initiatives to support the Government of Indonesia's target in achieving its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The company believes that long-term goals are crucial to align with the Government of Indonesia’s 17 major SDGs goals by 2030 and as integrated in the National Medium-Term Development Plan for 2020-2024. The SDGs agenda is not only a global commitment implemented by all countries, but also serves as a guide for Indonesia in implementing inclusive and sustainable national development programs. Achieving the SDGs requires cooperation from all parties, including the private sector and the community.

Vivi Yulaswati, Expert Staff to the Minister of National Development Planning/Bappenas for Social Affairs and Poverty Reduction, as well as Head of the National Secretariat of TPB/SDGs said, “The Indonesian government has a strong commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For this reason, collective actions are needed, through efforts and collaborations between the government, the private sector, the community, and various other related parties; in aligning and implementing needs and strategies to achieve common goals.

To achieve Indonesia's Sustainable Development Goals, the private sector can play its role as an enabler by integrating the SDGs agenda into their business processes or company operations to create a sustainable economic growth that is inclusive and which prioritizes environmental protection.

Edy Sutopo, Director of Beverage, Tobacco Products, and Refreshment (Mintemgar) Industry, Directorate General of Agro Industry, Ministry of Industry said, “The private sector or business actors are important partners of the government in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Indonesia. Danone Indonesia is one of our partners and it has been adopting the SDGs principles into their various sustainability initiative programs. These initiatives are visible examples of the company's contribution and support to improve the quality of life and welfare of the Indonesian people.”

Danone Indonesia consistently publishes its Sustainability Report biannually, from both Danone-AQUA and Danone SN Indonesia. Danone Indonesia’s Sustainability Report is prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standard framework, and various programs in nature conservation, nutrition education, product innovation based on research and science, empowering communities and communities where the company operates, the company’s internal, as well as collaboration with other sectors. The Sustainability Report is a form of transparency and accountability for our business processes and impacts to be disclosed to all stakeholders.

Danone-AQUA Achievements by 2020

The company believes that long-term goals are crucial to align with the Government of Indonesia’s 17 major SDGs goals by 2030 and as integrated in the National Medium-Term Development Plan for 2020-2024. The SDGs agenda is not only a global commitment implemented by all countries, but also serves as a guide for Indonesia in implementing inclusive and sustainable national development programs.

Understanding the importance of the company's role to be a part of it, by 2020 Danone-AQUA has planted 2.4 million trees, achieved the target of 1.15 water ratio, reduced 14.77% of total energy use compared to 2019, saved energy up to a total of 149,713 Giga Joule, and succeeded in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 157,597 Tons of Co2 Eq during the 2019-2020 period.

All Danone-AQUA factories have also been certified by the Food Safety System Certification (FSSC), 92% has been sourced from local suppliers, and recorded zero incidents related to non-compliance with information and labeling of products and services.

Until the end of 2020, Danone-AQUA also recorded 363,000 beneficiaries of the WASH program in 34 districts/cities in Indonesia, more than 500 MSMEs receiving the benefits of the DAMPING program, 318 sustainable agricultural lands in 18 locations, and 8,000 housewives being part of the AQUA Home program. Danone SN Indonesia's achievements by 2020

Danone SN Indonesia consistently supports the growth and the development of Indonesian children. To support innovation, Danone SN Indonesia inaugurated the Danone Nutricia Research Sarihusada R&I Center, an international research center in Yogyakarta.

Danone SN Indonesia also continuously promoted the 'Aksi Prevent Stunting' program in collaboration with various parties to encourage the replication of this program in other areas. In addition, it has other educational programs such as the 'Fill My Plate' program, the launch of nutrition education for teenagers in the GESID (Healthy Generation Indonesia) program, Duta 1000 Pelangi, Warung Sehat Anak, and Bunda Mengajar.

Danone SN Indonesia also plays an active role in protecting the environment by building biodiversity parks in 2 locations with a total area of 24 hectares and optimizing resources in all its production activities.

Support in Handling the COVID-19 Pandemic by 2021

Danone Indonesia actively supports the government's efforts in handling the COVID-19 pandemic. Until the end of this year, Danone Indonesia has distributed aid worth a total of IDR 56 billion, which is prioritized to meet the needs of medical equipment and hydration for COVID-19 handling facility in Indonesia.

Danone Indonesia also supports the acceleration of the country’s vaccination program in collaboration with the government and related stakeholders in 92 vaccination centers in 27 major cities throughout Indonesia, with a number of beneficiaries of more than 2 million residents

By the end of 2020, Danone Indonesia also collaborated with the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) to produce and distribute Probarz biscuits and Aitamie noodles. Danone Indonesia also donated 20,000 nutritional products to online drivers to fulfill their family nutrition, and distributed 1,000 laptops for high-achieving and underprivileged elementary school students.

The Sustainability Report is a manifestation for Danone Indonesia to continue to innovate and to reaffirm the company’s role as a force for good, or the power to do good for the environment and society in which it operates. The launch of its Sustainability Report, aims to provide transparency of information to stakeholders on the extent to which these sustainability initiatives have been achieved and their impact throughout the Danone Indonesia business chain.
