Our Patented FOS:GOS 1:9

Nutricia developed the innovative concept of adding prebiotics oligosaccharides to infant milks, which was developed by mimicking the composition of oligosaccharides in breast milk.

We developed a unique prebiotic mixture of 90% short chain galacto-oligosaccharide (GOS) and 10% long-chain fructo-oligosaccharide (lcFOS).  On Nutricia product packaging you will see the ingredient listed as FOS-GOS (1:9) composition. This finding is considered so unique it is protected by a patent granted in numerous countries and approved for use in at least 27 countries, including the European Union and several countries in the Asia-Pacific region, namely Indonesia.

Since our initial discovery, we have published a number of clinical studies validating the safety and efficacy of FOS-GOS (1:9) composition.  These studies have shown that FOS-GOS with the 1:9 ratio in milk supplement products can selectively increase bifidobacteria in the colon on pre-term babies, infants and toddlers. Bifidobacteria is considered “good bacteria” for its wide range of benefits to gut health, improved digestive system and immune system development.

Nutricia studies specifically point to these as the positive health effects of FOS-GOS (1:9):
